Welcome to your first Meraki Mind guide. And this week, we are talking astrology.
In the last 2 years, the trend surrounding spirituality and astrology has sky rocketed, and its all we ever see on our phones, news feeds and on our social media apps. What does this mean? LOTS of different opinions. But its important to remember the beauty of spirituality is that there is no right or wrong, and whilst astrology is ruled by science and space, we can use the energy from these outer world sources to magnify our spirituality practices.
Now, at first glace if you were to look at your FYP on Tik-Tok or Instagram, especially if you are just stepping into the world of star signs and full moons, it can be a little daunting, and if you do not understand the core meaning of some of these topics, it can often get overlooked and dismissed. It doesn't matter where you are from, who you are, or what you believe in; astrology and spirituality are concepts that can bring a new perspective on how you view the world around you, and can be the key to healing if you are using them for that purpose.
At the first of each month, I will be posting a easy to follow schedule with all of the key dates and astrological cycles that are happening that month. But first, it might be handy to know what each one means!
That's where this guide comes in.
Moon Phases
There are 8 phases of the moon cycle, but for beginners, its great to focus on the full and new moon phases. However, the attached image is a great guide and simplifies what each stage of the moon phase is utilized for.
The full moon tends to mark a build up of energy that you have collected, and makes for the perfect time to LET GO and CLEANSE. Each full or new moon will be in a different astrological sign i.e. this new moon or full moon is in the sign of Aries or Libra.
As you know, each star sign has different characteristics and traits. You will know this from maybe reading up your own, or if you have seen people talk about stereotypical 'traits' particular signs may carry. To make the most out of a new moon or full moon, you can harness those characteristics by utilizing the moons energy.
For example:
A new moon in Libra would be great for manifesting romance, self-love, beauty, working on your divine feminine, or using the new moon in Libra's energy to unblock relationship blockages. Or, you can use the new moon in Libra's energy to work on your indecisive thoughts surrounding your career and goals, and use shadow work or journaling to work through this. This is because the sign of Libra is all about love, beauty, passion and being indecisive.
So for each full or new moon, look up on our posts or even just on google what sign its in, as this will really take your rituals to the next step. You can also download the stages of the moon app here, which is a great tool for looking up what sign the moon is in each day, and what phase it is at. Again, this is not a rule book. Use the full or new moon cycles in whatever way feels best for YOU. Just remember, the full moon's energy is about releasing, whilst the new moon's energy is about setting intentions and manifesting, but using what sign it is in to help chime in on specific areas of your life that may need work is a great way tool to use.
Planet Alignment & Birth Charts
We often hear about the dreaded mercury retrograde, or things going wrong (or right!) when certain planets move in alignment with each other.
This is where it gets complicated.
Each star sign is ruled by its own planet. So, learning about the planets in relation to your zodiac is an essential step in beginning your journey into the stars. The planets with short orbits move across the zodiac frequently and where they are in a natal chart is specific to an individual's date and time of birth. These are are known as the inner planets; the sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars, and they directly impact things like our unique personalities and our daily experiences.
The planets on the other side of the asteroid belt are referred to as the outer planets; Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. The outer planets define larger life themes, as well as experiences shared by generations. Within the birth chart, these planets are determined by the houses they occupy. A birth chart is divided into twelve sections referred to as houses. Each house represents an area of life: Houses 1 through to 6 focus on everyday activities and mundane matters such as personal finances, the home, and routines; houses 7 through to 12 relate to more abstract concepts, including philosophy, legacy, and psychic abilities. The placement of the planets in the houses reveals where we store our energy, as well as our strengths and weaknesses. This is how we can utilize our star sign in correlation to where the planets have aligned, and how we can utilize the astrological energy to work on specific parts of our lives.
So, that's your first guide on astrology for beginner's. This has covered everything you need to know about this months astrological cycles, and you can now use this knowledge to make the most of November, and channel your power.
The Big 3
Your big 3 refers to your sun, moon, and rising (or ascendant) placements on your natal chart. Your natal chart is where the planets, moon, and sun were aligned in the sky at the time, date, and location of your birth. You can use your specific natal chart on various celestial events and cycles, and it can help identify and utilize character traits.
To calculate your signs, you can use a calculator here.
